Wine Companion Tasting Notes
2014 Fenestella Shiraz (Hunter Valley)
97 Points Drink to 2054
This is a top flight example of the great 2014 vintage. It is exceptionally complex, with black and red fruits, detailed tannins and cedary French oak. The depth and length of flavour are exceptional, and the wine is certainly going to have a 40-year life span.
2013 Fenestella Shiraz (Hunter Valley)
96 Points Drink to 2043
Deep, clear crimson-purple; twice the price of its sibling, and quite literally, twice as good; it has the sumptuous polish of top quality Hunter shiraz, with red and black fruits taking equal space on the bouquet and palate, sustained by superbly honed tannins and integrated oak.
2012 Feldspars Shiraz (Orange)
95 Points Drink to 2027
Vivid colour; the fragrant, spicy red fruits of the bouquet introduce a deliciously silky, smooth and supple wine with lively and seductive red cherry fruit flavours supported by superfine tannins and subtle oak.
2013 Arbitrage Cabernet Merlot Shiraz (Wrattonbully SA)
95 points Drink to 2038
Only produced in exceptional vintages, which 2013 clearly was. This stamps its imprint of quality from the first whiff and first sip. The red fruits are crowned with a laurel wreath of perfectly balanced tannins and oak.
2013 Volcanics Cabernet (Orange)
95 Points Drink to 2033
This French oak-matured Cabernet is the pinnacle of the estate's Orange vineyard. It speaks loud and clear of its cool climate origins, but is unequivocally ripe. Cassis has a garland of bay leaf, dried herb and black olive, and a base of integrated French oak joined with fine, gravelly Cabernet tannins.
2012 Block 22 Cabernet (Wrattonbully SA)
95 Points Drink to 2037
Deep, vivid crimson-purple, better than the (2012) Volcanics; the palate is richer, and also more focused, the cassis fruit more intense, the tannins more in play. Despite all of this, is still only medium-bodied.
